Rep. Norelli is serving her second term as Speaker of the House and her seventh term as a representative from Rockingham District 16, representing Newington and Portsmouth. As Speaker, she chairs the Rules Commmittee. A native of New Jersey, she holds a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and taught mathematics at Winnacunnet High School before being elected to the House. In the past, Speaker Norelli served as the chair of the Portsmouth legislative delegation and as the ranking Democrat on the House Science, Technology and Energy Committee, where she was the chair of the Clean Air Subcommittee. Speaker Norelli has also served on the House Finance Committee and co-chaired the Reproductive Rights Caucus for 10 years. She has served as chair of both the Sexual Assault Support Services Board of Directors and NARAL-NH PAC Board of Directors. She has also served on the NARAL-NH Board and the advisory board of the Portsmouth Feminist Health Center. She attended the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, in 1995, and helped to organize follow-up conferences in New Hampshire in 1996 and 2000 that included components on Violence Against Women. |

In 2008, Speaker Norelli was named chair of the Standing Committees of the National Conference of State Legislatures, where she oversees the work of 12 committees. She also serves on the NCSL Executive Committee. She is featured in two books about women in politics: "Pearls, Politics and Power: How Women Can Win and Lead" by Vermont Gov. Madeleine Kunin, and "Women at the Table: 40 Intimate Profiles of Political Women in the Northeast" by Michaeline della Fera. |
