Representative Ellen Delana Read represents the towns of Newmarket and Newfields. She was recently re-elected to her fourth term in office. She is Clerk of the Fish and Game and Marine Resources Committee.

She is the founder of the House Progressive Caucus, sits on the House Special Committee on Housing, chairs the Newmarket Energy and Environment Committee, and is the state lead for the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators.

Rep. Read has won two Legislator of the Year awards; from the Humane Society of the United States - New Hampshire and from Voices of Wildlife. She has received an award from American Promise for her 2019 bill, the passage of which made New Hampshire the 20th state to call for a constitutional amendment to overturn the SCOTUS Citizens United decision, and she was recently named a Woman of Excellence by the National Foundation of Women Legislators.

Rep. Read grew up the eldest of five in south Memphis, TN. She has lived in Newmarket, NH since 2009, and holds a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies - Environmental and Socioeconomic Ethics and Policy from the UNH (2011), as well as a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Vanderbilt University (2003), with a double minor in Religious Studies and Japanese. She has worked as a high school teacher in Japan (2003-2006) as well as an adjunct professor of American Government at Great Bay Community College. Before being elected, she worked in political advocacy, including positions as a community organizer and manager at locally based, nonpartisan nonprofits on issues which have bipartisan support, such as getting big money out of politics and restoring transparent and fair elections.
