STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Nine

AN ACT requiring employers of employees with service dogs to place signs prohibiting animals other than service dogs.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 New Section; Employees with Service Dogs. Amend RSA 167-D by inserting after section 8 the following new section:

167-D:8-a Employers of Personnel with Service Dogs; Mandatory Signs.

I. Any employer of personnel requiring service dogs shall display a sign at the entrance to his or her workplace with the words “Service Animals Only.”

II. Veterinary hospitals, offices and clinics, and pet shops as defined by RSA 437:2,III shall be exempt from displaying a sign as prescribed by paragraph I.

III. In addition to any other penalty under this chapter, any person who violates paragraph I shall pay a fine of $500 per day for each day that such sign is not displayed. Such fines shall be remitted to the treasurer of the municipality where the workplace is physically located in accordance with RSA 502-A:8.

2 Effective Date. This act shall take effect January 1, 2010.
