This bill removes the limit on the state board of education’s authority to grant charter status to chartered public schools during the 10-year pilot program. The bill also repeals the prohibition on the approval of new chartered public schools between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Ten

AN ACT relative to the approval of chartered public schools.

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

1 Chartered Public Schools; Approval by State Board of Education. Amend RSA 194-B:3-a, I to read as follows:

I. There is established a 10-year pilot program which authorizes the state board of education to grant charter status under this section. Beginning July 1, 2003, the state board of education shall be authorized to grant [no more than 20 state] chartered public school applications during the 10-year pilot program.

2 Repeal. 2009, 144:153, relative to prohibiting the approval of any new chartered public school between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011, is repealed.

3 Effective Date. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
