House Resolution No. 14

Memorializing State Representative Sean C. Cox of Andover

WHEREAS, we have learned with profound sorrow of the death of our friend and colleague, Sean C. Cox, who was serving his first term as a State Representative, representing the citizens of Andover, Boscawen, Canterbury, Loudon, Northfield and Salisbury; and

WHEREAS, Sean C. Cox served with diligence and enthusiasm on the Science, Technology & Energy Committee, receiving praise from committee colleagues regardless of party, for his attentiveness and quest for understanding; and

WHEREAS, Sean Cox was an avid snowboarder who instructed others, enjoyed baseball and football, was a teenage survivor of cancer, was inspired by James Madison, enjoyed spending time with friends at the town beach on Highland Lake in Andover and according to wife Lori, “felt really blessed to call New Hampshire home;” and

WHEREAS, Sean Cox always admitted he was bad with remembering names and so found it funny to be assigned a seat between two Representatives named Kevin; and

WHEREAS, Sean Cox was a lover of knowledge, having had a scholarship named for him at Rocky Hill School awarded to students who exhibit both excellence and promise in mathematics and science, and went on to a degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MBA from New York University and then another degree in culinary arts; and

WHEREAS, as evidenced from his lifelong pursuit of education, Sean Cox embodied his favorite quote by author Robert Heinlein which reads, “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly;” and

WHEREAS, above all, Sean C. Cox was a devoted family man who married his first love Lori, and most recently was a deeply caring stay-at-home dad to sons Aiden and Kieran; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, by the House of Representatives in Regular Session convened, that Sean C. Cox be granted the highest praise and accolades and our profound thanks for his service to his state and the town he called home, and, be it further

RESOLVED, that expressions of our most heartfelt sympathy be extended to his family and that a suitable copy of this Resolution be prepared for presentation to them.
