ANALYSIS

 

This bill changes the term of supervisors of the checklist to 3 years and requires the supervisors of the checklist to use information from the National Change of Address database to verify corrections to the voter checklist.

STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Three

 

AN ACT relative to supervisors of the checklist.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  Election of Supervisors of the Checklist.  Amend RSA 41:46-a to read as follows:

41:46-a Election of Supervisors of the Checklist. The board of supervisors of the checklist shall consist of 3 legal voters of the town. At the annual town election held in every even numbered year, the voters of each town shall elect, by ballot, one supervisor for a term of [6] 3 years, provided that the supervisor elected at the state general election in 1974 shall serve until the annual town election in 1980, and that the supervisor elected at the state general election in 1976 shall serve until the annual town election in 1982.

2  New Section; Use of National Change of Address Database.  Amend RSA 654 by inserting after section 36-b the following new section:

654:36-c  Use of National Change of Address Database.  Whenever the supervisors of the checklist correct the checklist, they shall use the information contained in the United States Postal Service National Change of Address database to verify the address of the voter.  

3  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
