STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE

 

In the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty Two

 

AN ACT prohibiting the capture, possession, and propagation of hares and rabbits for hunting dog training and field trials.

 

Be it Enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court convened:

 

1  New Section; General Provisions as to Fish and Game; Dogs; Use of Snowshoe Hares or Wild Rabbits for Training Prohibited.  Amend RSA 207 by inserting after section 12-c the following new section:

207:12-d  Use of Snowshoe Hares and Wild Rabbits for Dog Training Prohibited.  No person or sporting dog club shall take live snowshoe hares or rabbits from the wild in this state and keep or propagate such animals in captivity for the purpose of using them for dog training, to stock a training site, or in field trials.  All snowshoe hares or rabbits held in captivity as of the effective date of this section shall be returned to the wild under the direction of executive director of fish and game.  Any snowshoe hares or rabbits which cannot be released back into the wild shall be surrendered to a wildlife rehabilitator.

2  Effective Date.  This act shall take effect 60 days after its passage.
